Mary's Walk is an outdoor community-wide walking event for all ages emphasizing walking for health, active transportation, the environment – and fun! This is a “walk at your own pace, start any time, start anywhere” fun walk, not a race. All ages can participate. Distances from 1 to 10 miles. There will be entertainment, garden visits, food and refreshment, and other activities along the route. Walkers will experience special places easily accessed by foot in the central Williamsburg area.
May is National Walking Month as well as National Bike Month. Mary Turnbull, WAB's first president, loved to walk as much as she loved to bike. Register FREE for sponsor discounts through our Partner Culture Fix. Donations are welcome to fund the Mary Turnbull Bike & Walk Fund at the Williamsburg Community Foundation. This fund recently granted money to buy helmets, locks, and lights for Voucher Clients at the Bicycle Co-Op of Williamsburg.
Can you help as a Walking Ambassador volunteer? Ambassadors take a 2-hour slot at a particular place along one of the 3 routes (see maps on website). Time slots are 10 am – 12 noon; 12 noon – 2 pm; 2 pm - 4 pm. Your easy job is to answer questions and promote walker safety. You will wear a BikeWalk Williamsburg Safety Vest to be easily identified as an Ambassador. Vests can be picked up in advance or at the BikeWalk Williamsburg tent in Merchant’s Square (between Talbot’s and J. McLaughlin) that Sunday. Allen Turnbull will handle all volunteer assignments and provide details. E-mail Allen directly at allenturnbull@outlook.com and let him know your available time window, or specific 2 hours, and your cell phone number.
